Born and raised in London and the English countryside, Stella McCartney graduated from Central St Martins in 1995. A signature style of sharp tailoring, natural confidence and sexy femininity was immediately apparent in her first collection. In 2001, Stella McCartney launched her own fashion house under her name and showed her first collection in Paris. A lifelong vegetarian, Stella McCartney does not use any leather or fur in her designs. Her collections include women’s ready-to-wear, accessories, lingerie, eyewear, fragrance, kids and the Adidas by Stella McCartney collections.
In 2003, the STELLA Eau de Parfum was launched. As with her ready-to-wear, the fragrance plays with contrast and contradictions by combining femininity with sharpness and softness with edge, vintage with modern, sexiness with sensuality, the extravert with the delicate. Inspired by a rose in full bloom, a predominant rose base is fused with peony flower for lightness, mandarin essence for a fresh vibrancy and woody ambers for a mysterious sensuality.
L.I.L.Y, launched in 2011, is a journey through the senses. It begins with the smell of a spring morning, dapped sunlight through the trees, a vision of delicate lily of the valley. It is the passage of time across a forest floor. The touch of moss and the darker intensity of truffles. More masculine and earthy, but still seductive and sensual. ‘Creating a fragrance is always very visual for me; I close my eyes and see a story. L.I.L.Y is the story of a girl becoming a woman. The beginning of a new chapter, one that is all her own,’ says Stella McCartney.
